Health Tips to Help Avoid Cancer

October 7th, 2009

More and more people die of cancer every day and in most cases we never know how it all started. In The United States alone, half a million Americans die annually of cancer and cancer-related diseases. Here are some health tips that everyone can follow to at least avoid getting cancer. You’ll notice that many of these reasons are closely tied to our personal habits.

Stop Smoking
If you are a smoker, stop smoking! It is one of the worse reasons why many people get cancer in the first place. Other than that, smoking doesn’t make you feel good inside anyway, so why even bother?

Reduce Red Meat Intake
It is better to stick to lean white meats rather than get your fill of red meats. Cut down on the red meats to prevent colon cancer, and go for healthier alternatives like fish and chicken. Make sure meat that you eat is not burned because the burned areas are carcinogens which can cause cancer.

Be More Active
The more active you are, the higher the chances that you remain fit and healthy. Exercise more, or take a 30 minute brisk walk or stretching exercises to keep your body limber and to get some fresh air. You will find what a difference this will also make in the way you feel every day. This will also help you reduce stress that you accumulate from a day’s work at the office.

Have a Better Diet
Overall you should increase your consumption in fruits and vegetables. Reduce drinking alcohol, and try to cook your food through baking, roasting, or broiling instead of deep-frying to cut down on intake of oils. By sticking to a healthy diet you will keep your functions healthy and in good working order.

Take Care of Your Skin
Keep yourself protected from the sun at all times. Ultraviolet rays can destroy your skin and may increase your chances of getting some kind of skin cancer. Always have sunscreen on hand to use before sun exposure. Even if you are just going out for a little while, always keep your skin protected from UV rays at all times.

Because nobody really knows what the exact cause of cancer is, it is important to take care of your body and stay updated on the news that will help you prevent cancer. By using common sense through healthy practices, you will find that your chances of getting cancer will go down.

Women And Health

October 5th, 2009

Women have specific needs when it comes to fitness and health. Being more susceptible to health risks as compared to men, women need special routines to deal with hormonal changes, motherhood, and professional responsibilities. Here some simple health tips for women that will help them maintain fitness and wellbeing:

Healthy eating
A good diet should consist of food that is rich in fiber like cereals, seeds and shoots. Women should also make a point not to forget their green and leafy vegetables at least once in a day and a variety of fruits to provide them with their healthy glow. Make sure you get enough calcium per day to keep your bones strong. Get your proteins from white meats and dairy products and get a good amount of carbohydrates to keep you energized throughout the day.

Water intake
Water is one of the most important things that women should never be without. Drinking lots of water will keep your body cool despite all the hormonal changes you may experience with menstruation or menopause. Water will also help you flush your system and keep your skin supple and moist. Always stay hydrated since drinking lots of water will make you feel better and make you look younger as well.

Exercise habits
Many people don’t like to exercise, but remember that exercise is vital for women to keep up with their busy household and work schedule. Whether it is yoga or a power walk around the park, by maintaining a regular exercise routine you will keep your muscles supple. By exercising regularly, even just for 30 minutes daily, will help you reduce stress.

Don’t forget your down time
The most important thing for women is to get their proper beauty sleep (which is still at least 8 hours a night) and to remember to take time out for themselves. This time should be spent doing something women enjoy from spending a few hours at a spa every month, or putting aside at least 30 minutes of quiet time to take a nap or read a book, or working on a favorite hobby to unwind and relax the mind and body.

Because women have special needs, they need to pay special attention to their bodies and their state of mind. As mothers, wives, professionals, and homemakers, women deal with things that most men never have to like menstruation, childbirth, and menopause. It is important that they maintain their health to keep up with their busy lifestyle.
